With a special thanks to Elia Pace for providing stabilization services and samples, this set of tests was aimed at understanding the effect of stabilization on chatoyance. Chatoyance was measured on 6 samples sanded to 1500-grit. Then the samples were kindly stabilized with epoxy resin and re-sanded to 1500-grit. Table below summarizes the results:
It may be concluded that, in general, chatoyance is negatively affected by stabilization on darker wood species. On the opposite, the process appears to benefit light-coloured wood species.
